Compact cars like the Cruze have gotten more attractive with the coupe like shapes and roomier back seats. It has a class leading 106.3-inch wheelbase that contributes to greater rear seat legroom and more rear knee room. It also gained more luggage room over the outgoing model. They also lightened this year’s offering by 250 pounds.
The Cruzes’ new 1.4L turbo engine with direct injection is matched with a standard six speed manual or available six speed automatic transmission. It will offer a maximum highway range of up to 570 miles per tank. When trying to pass, the turbo engine has an impressive punch. The fascia was borrowed from the Camaro with its thin, wrap around upper grille.
Its lineup of advanced, adaptive safety features includes side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist and forward collision alert. The interior designers really had the heartbeat of millennials in mind because the console appears to be made explicitly for them. The instrument cluster came straight from the Camaro with ribbed cowl and racy gauges wedged between the RPM and MPH discs. This is definitely a car for the tech savvy, not rubber burners.
Chevy is expected to offer a 1.6-liter diesel version in early 2017. They also will have the Chevy Volt, which is basically the Cruze with a plug in powertrain.
