The latest generation Chevrolet Colorado is a really popular pickup truck and it is easy to understand why. The vehicle has got good balance in power and fuel economy, and it is also pretty affordable to own too. The new Colorado is also responsible for the revival of the midsized pickup truck market.
The new V6 displaces 3.6L like its predecessor but benefits from improved variable valve timing for intake and exhaust, improved direct injection, and Active Fuel Management, resulting in an increase in horsepower and torque from 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. to 308 hp and 275 lb.-ft.
Stan Ludlow, chief engineer for the 2017 Colorado, said the engine and transmission were calibrated to emphasize performance and refinement while optimizing fuel economy: “The Colorado is currently the most fuel-efficient pickup truck in America, with an EPA-estimated 31 mpg highway when equipped with the diesel engine. As such, for the new V-6 and eight-speed combination we focused on improving everyday driving performance. Drivers will immediately notice that it pulls harder when accelerating from a stop or passing on the highway; it is more confident pulling a trailer up a steep grade and it is more refined cruising at a constant highway speed.”
I also love that they made it a tad bigger than most midsized truck offerings. Just because you are purchasing a midsize truck doesn’t mean you don’t like to spread out once in a while or carry an extra person or two.
